This time, I’ll be introducing a one-day sightseeing plan in Wakayama that you can fully enjoy!

This trip started with the desire to try Kue fish, and it’s packed with must-see spots to fully enjoy Nanki Shirahama.

It’s filled with nature, delicious food, and historical shrines, so be sure to check it out!

With that said, let's go to Nanki Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture!"

1. A Luxurious Breakfast at ToreTore Market

After arriving at Nanki Shirahama Airport, the first stop is ToreTore Market to enjoy fresh seafood! Start your day with a luxurious seafood bowl to fuel up with energy.

2. The Stunning Natural Scenery of Kizetukyo Gorge

Recharged by the seafood, next up is Kizetukyo Gorge. You’re sure to be amazed by the breathtaking views created by nature’s wonders.

Kizetukyo – Takimibashi This is Kizetukyo Gorge, located in Tanabe City, Wakayama. It’s about a 23-minute drive (15 km) from ToreTore Market. Across the road from the bridge, there’s a public restroom and parking space for about 5 to 6 cars. The area is scattered with large rocks.

A Peaceful Moment at Kozanji Temple

Next, we head to the historic Kozanji Temple. Taking a peaceful stroll through its quiet grounds is one of the true joys of travel.

4. Tenjinzaki – Like Japan’s Very Own Uyuni Salt Flats!

At low tide, the beautiful reflective surface at Tenjinzaki resembles the Uyuni Salt Flats! Be sure to bring your camera when you visit.

5. A Mystical Visit to Aritoshi Shrine

Next, we head to Aritoshi Shrine. The origin of its name is quite intriguing, and you’re sure to enjoy a unique and mystical experience here.

Drawn in by the curious name, I decided to visit. It’s located along a narrow street lined with small shops. Though it's a small shrine, there is parking available. The mystery behind its name was finally revealed. Long ago, foreign emissaries came to Japan and presented a difficult challenge. If the challenge wasn’t solved, Japan would be made into a vassal state...

 

It's an interesting shrine with a fascinating myth.

6. Visit to the World Heritage Site: Tokei Shrine

Wakayama is home to World Heritage shrines as well. Tokei Shrine is a must-visit spot for history enthusiasts!

World Heritage Site: Toukei Shrine
Tokei Shrine was added to the World Heritage site 'Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range' in October 2016. As you enter, you’re greeted by a dragon-themed purification basin. After cleansing your hands, you proceed further into the shrine. Due to the rain, there were few visitors. As I strolled around, the crunch of gravel underfoot, I noticed a dynamic statue tucked away in the corner...

7. Check-in at Point Vacation Nanki Shirahama

In the evening, we checked in at Point Vacation Nanki Shirahama and relaxed. It’s pure bliss to unwind in the spacious rooms and on the deck, enjoying the view of the sea.

8. Savoring Kue Cuisine – Umi Gohan Yama Gohan Marukiyo

The grand finale of the trip was at Marukiyo, where we finally got to enjoy the long-awaited Kue cuisine!

At Umi Gohan Yama Gohan Marukiyo, we indulged in a 30-kilogram wild Kue! The dishes have a distinct flavor that sets them apart from farmed fish. Let me introduce you to the amazing taste and why this place is always packed!

Finally! It's time to eat the kelp! After all that walking, beer tastes so good!
