Forest Station Momiji Valley Great Suspension Bridge

Tochigi

The Momiji Valley Great Suspension Bridge is 320 meters long and is the largest unsupported pedestrian suspension bridge on Honshu.Unlike typical suspension bridges, it has a unique structure that enhances its strength by stretching wire ropes horizontally. The bridge stands 26 meters high, offering a breathtaking view of the majestic Shiobara Valley as you cross.

Pay the 300 yen fee, and you're off on your aerial walk!

Maybe because of the rain, it felt like we had the place almost to ourselves.

There were cosmos flowers blooming in front of the bridge.

Ta-da! It's long! And quite shaky. I realized someone was jumping behind me.

It's mystical.

This is what it looks like from the other side after crossing.

It seems there are vipers in the area. Please be very careful. But having an umbrella should be fine, right?!

It's a kappa. Is it jumping earlier?

This is Shiobara Dam Park. It is well-maintained with many resting spots. It’s a pity about the rain.

The Momiji Valley Great Suspension Bridge, a "Sacred Place for Lovers," features romantic symbols: a chainsaw-carved pair of Kumataka hawks and heart-shaped benches.

Bridal designer Yumi Katsura has designated this place as a "Sacred Place for Lovers."

In the rain, many dragonflies were flying around. They were perched on the trees at some incredible angles.

Their abdomens were ripped with defined muscles.

What shrine is this? I skipped it because the rain made it too much of a hassle. 💦

Next time, I’d definitely like to visit during the maple season.

The Forest Station’s website has photos of the fall foliage. It’s beautiful!
