Hello, fellow travel lovers!
This time, let me introduce Zenkoji Unjoden, located on a hill with a panoramic view of Zenkoji Temple!
As soon as you start walking from the parking lot, the first thing that catches your eye is... an adorable cow statue with a cute round shape!
This isn’t just any cow statue! It’s said that a sacred white cow, donated from India and lovingly cared for by Zenkoji, rests here.
It’s quite an unexpected welcome, isn’t it? Since it was backlit, I decided to take a shot from behind.
Now, onward to the breathtaking view...!
Since Unjoden is located on a hill, the view from there is nothing short of spectacular! You can enjoy a panoramic view of Nagano City and the Zenkoji Plain.
It’s backlit, but… who cares! I went ahead and snapped the picture anyway!
You can enjoy the magical scenery of the city bathed in the morning sunlight.
It truly feels like an experience of being "above the clouds."
A grand mausoleum open to all denominations
Unjoden is also known as a grand mausoleum open to all denominations and, in spring, it’s famous for the stunning display of about 650 blooming cherry trees. (…but since I visited in autumn, the cherry blossoms will have to wait until next time!)
I highly recommend visiting Unjoden alongside your Zenkoji Temple visit. It’s definitely worth an early start!
Next time, I’ll introduce the charms of Zenkoji Temple!
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip!
