Hello, fellow travel lovers!
This time, I visited the Minakata Kumagusu Memorial Museum, located in Banshozan Park in Nanki Shirahama.
There’s even a scenic observation deck on the rooftop, but… unfortunately!
It was closed due to strong winds. But no worries, I’ll upload my entrance ticket as a memento! (It’s the only picture I’ve got... crying)
As soon as you enter, you're greeted by Minakata Kumagusu’s handwritten notes. It seems he was the type to write things down to help remember them, which explains the mountain of documents he left behind, now on display.
To be honest, I didn’t know anything about Minakata Kumagusu before. But by the time I left the museum, I was completely captivated by his charm and had become a fan!
What fascinated me most was, first and foremost, his incredible memory.
And then, his passion for research, which seemed limitless.
On top of that, his drive and determination were remarkable!
And, believe it or not... he loved meat and beer! (This is important!)
For a scholar, he had such an approachable side, which makes him all the more likable, don’t you think?
I wanted to buy a Minakata Mandala T-shirt at the museum shop, but it was sold out... Definitely planning a rematch for next time! If they restock, you can even purchase it online.
In the end, learning about Minakata Kumagusu was probably the biggest takeaway from this trip. If you ever visit Nanki Shirahama, be sure to stop by!
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
