Find Serenity at Eisho-ji Temple: Kamakura's Only Nunnery with a Bamboo Grove and Moss Garden

Kanagawa

Hello, fellow travel lovers!

This time, I visited Eisho-ji Temple in Kamakura!

Surprisingly, this is the only surviving nunnery in Kamakura, known for blessings related to the protection of women, family safety, and safe childbirth.

Hearing that, I thought, 'I have to visit!' and made my way over.

As soon as you enter the grounds, there’s a small reception desk. Here, you pay the admission fee and receive a visitor’s guide!

The guide includes a summary of the temple's history and highlights, making me feel like a true 'temple visit master' (haha).

As I proceeded to the main hall, I noticed a small door.

Gently opening the door, a small offering box appeared.

The usual practice here is to offer a coin and pay respects to the Golden Amida Triad from outside the small door.

The golden glow gave me a bit of a power boost, leaving me feeling refreshed and clear-headed!

And above all, the bamboo grove and moss garden are absolutely wonderful!

There’s a small path through the bamboo grove, and just walking along it brings a gentle sense of relaxation.

The sound of bamboo swaying in the wind, the moss-covered stone path… it feels like a whole different world!

I found myself lost in thought, momentarily forgetting reality (haha).

The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
