Mini Hike to Gifu Castle & Historical Stroll
Follow the “Gifu Castle Route” sign and start your mini hike!
First, study the chart on the Mount Kinka guideboard.
“Oh, so Gifu Mountain is made of rock!” — showing off a bit of knowledge before the climb (lol).
Is this the chart? …Probably!
The mountain trail is full of traces of history.
-
Site of Denichi’s Gate → Just a random stone that makes you want to sit and rest (lol).
-
Site of the Denbaba → So subtle you’ll find yourself thinking, “Uh… is this it?”
-
Horikiri (cut-through path) → Easy to walk right past, but it’s full of historical charm!
Along the way, the Gifu Castle Support Squad flags were cheerfully fluttering in the breeze ✌️
I don’t know who you are, but thanks for the support!
Exploring the Gifu Castle keep and its exhibitions.
Spotted the “Gifu Castle” sign through the construction scaffolding.
“Getting close!” I thought excitedly… but then I spotted a well right in front of me, so of course, I had to check it out.
Result: just the remains of a well. But hey, if you’re a well enthusiast, this might be right up your alley 😂
Finally, after climbing the last steps… face-to-face with Gifu Castle!
Now, it’s time to enter the main keep area!
What really caught my eye was the recreated display of the traditional feast. It was more lavish than I expected, and I honestly thought, “I want to eat this…!” (lol)
And then, the gold-leaf decorated tiles were shining brilliantly!
They were so dazzling that my camera couldn’t even focus (lol).
Standing before Oda Nobunaga’s magnificent armor, my body froze in awe.
Nobunaga’s armor: I don’t think I could move an inch in that (lol).
And then, the statue of Oda Nobunaga.
I couldn’t help but whisper, “So sleek and stylish…!” (lol)
The view from the castle keep is truly a ruler’s perspective of the world.
This breathtaking view of Gifu City and the Nagara River spreading out before you is simply stunning!
It honestly makes you think, “No wonder they wanted to rule the land!” (lol)
Living up here would definitely give you rock-solid legs—I can totally feel it.
⛩ Kinkazan Mitake Shrine: Small in size but packed with presence!
Near the castle keep, the Kinkazan Ontake Shrine sits quietly in a charming, compact space.
But with the breathtaking scenery stretching out behind it, the shrine’s sacred presence feels even more powerful.
Meeting a “modern-style” Nobunaga at the Gifu Castle Museum.
When you buy a Gifu Castle admission ticket (200 yen), this museum visit comes included at no extra cost!
Gifu City, you’re quietly impressive…!
Modern-style statue of Oda Nobunaga: Wait… was Nobunaga secretly a model?
Handsome statue of Dōsan Saitō.: Can’t help but feel a little flustered surrounded by all these handsome figures (lol).
And here comes the unexpected experience 👇
**“Assassination Simulation Experience”** 😱 (People removed from the photo)
“Stand in this spot… and the weapons come flying at you!”
With spears and swords suddenly appearing in my view, I couldn’t help but get a little scared and silently thought, “Nobunaga, you really had a tough time…”
Family Course Descent Challenge (45 minutes)
Alright, after fully enjoying the visit, it’s time to head down. I chose the “Family Course,” supposedly the easiest route… or so I thought!
Turns out… it’s tougher than I expected! 🤣
They did say it was “family-friendly,” right?
Along the way, you’ll find more well remains and barely noticeable stone markers — the laid‑back history missions continue!
It takes about 45 minutes in total.。
But it felt more like I walked for an hour (lol).
Safely back at the park! Now, on to the next spot!
Made it down safely at last—my legs are completely worn out! (lol)
I wanted to cool down my overheated body and take a little seat for a rest…
And so, next up, I’m heading to the Gifu City Museum of History♪
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
