Japan’s Only One! Praying for Clear Skies at Kisho Shrine ☀️

Tokyo

Hello, fellow travel lovers!

Today, I’m sharing a slightly unique spot.

I visited the only shrine in Japan dedicated to the god of weather ☀️☁️

Yes, the star of today’s trip is Kisho Shrine!

First things first… wait, is this Hikawa Shrine?

Following the map, I arrived at a large shrine and thought, “Hmm… is this Hikawa Shrine?”

For a moment, I wondered if I had the wrong place — but don’t worry, you’re in the right spot 😆

Today’s weather is officially announced!

The first thing I noticed was the weather board for the day.

And on this visit… clear skies! ☀️

A sunshine announcement straight from the shrine — it somehow feels extra reassuring.

Kisho Shrine is inside the Hikawa Shrine grounds

Walking straight along the approach path naturally leads you to Hikawa Shrine.

But look carefully to the right — you’ll spot a small torii gate.

That’s Kisho Shrine, quietly located within the grounds.

Once you know this, you’ll feel like a local 😉

The charms are just too cute

On the left shelf, you’ll find rows of geta-shaped charms.

In the past, weather directly affected your footing — rain or snow meant slippery roads.

Thinking of “weather starting from your feet” suddenly makes sense.

On the right shelf… teru-teru bozu dolls!

So cute that you’ll probably say it out loud 😄

Behind them, you can still see Hikawa Shrine standing calmly.

About Kisho Shrine (quick version)

According to the information board:

  • It is the only shrine in Japan dedicated to weather

  • Deeply worshipped by people working in weather forecasting, aviation, and agriculture

The Frog of Hope 🐸

One of the most eye-catching features is the “Frog of Hope” stone.

The Frog of Hope

  • Six blue beads:sunshine
  • One red bead: rain

Clearly, sunshine has the advantage ☀️

At this point, rain doesn’t seem likely at all!

Of course, I also prayed at Hikawa Shrine

After finishing my prayers at Kisho Shrine, I also paid my respects at neighboring Hikawa Shrine.

Visiting both shrines together is important 🙏

Hikawa Shrine enshrines Susanoo-no-Mikoto,
a powerful deity known for:

  • Protection from misfortune

  • Disaster prevention

  • Good luck

  • Victory and success

A truly dependable guardian shrine for the local community.

Final thoughts

If you’re hoping for good weather — before a trip, an event, or a special day —

this place might just help ☀️ (personal opinion!)

The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
