Hello, fellow travel lovers!
Today, I visited Machida Tenmangu in Machida City. It looks grand in photos, but in reality, it has a surprisingly cozy atmosphere. That makes it all the more relaxing and charming.
A God Who Grants Wishes for Both Academic Success and Protection from Misfortune
Machida Tenmangu is a versatile spot known for granting wishes for academic success, cultural arts, and protection from misfortune. With so much to offer, it’d be a waste not to make a few wishes while you’re here! What did I wish for? Well, “May neither my mother nor I lose our wits!” (Haha).
At the purification fountain, a fierce-looking dragon was spouting water as if to say, "Cleanse yourself thoroughly!" The dragon’s commanding presence made me think, "I’d better wash my hands carefully, or I might get scolded." So, I made sure to give them a good rinse!
The shrine sparkled under the sunlight, radiating a serene glow. Feeling refreshed just by looking at it, I snapped a few photos for the blog and headed off to pay my respects.
I tossed in my offering, bowed twice, clapped twice, and bowed once more.
Family safety, staying sharp, protection from misfortune, safe travels, traffic safety… I listed off every wish I could think of!
I couldn’t help but wonder if I was being too greedy and if the deity might be chuckling at me (haha).
And the fortune we drew after the visit? Both my mother and I got "Daikichi" – the best luck!
Looks like we’re all set to tackle the year with renewed energy and determination!
The Tokyo Charm Beyond the Torii Gate
When you point your camera at the torii gate, you’ll notice skyscrapers in the background. It’s a vivid reminder that Machida is part of Tokyo. The unique blend of urban life and historical charm felt surprisingly refreshing!
Passing Through the Torii Gates of Shusse Inari
Within the grounds of Machida Tenmangu, there’s a corner where small torii gates stand in a row.
At the end of the path stands the "Shusse Inari" shrine. Here, I made sure to pray for the success of my travel blog. Despite its small size, this shrine exudes a powerful energy that left me feeling motivated and inspired!
The Joys After the Visit
After the visit, I decided to treat myself to some delicious soba for lunch. I quickly pulled out my smartphone and searched for nearby soba restaurants. Can we call this part of the learning experience too? (Haha).
Summary
Machida Tenmangu is a spot where you can enjoy beautiful seasonal flowers throughout the year.
Whether you’re striving to excel in your studies or just looking for a little inspiration in life, this is a must-visit spot. And of course, it’s perfectly fine to wish for “staying sharp” while you’re there!
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
