Day 2 of Wakayama Sightseeing! A Recommended Plan to Enjoy Ramen & Stunning Scenery

Model Plan

What's Wakayama Ramen Like?

Hope we can find good Ramen shop!

Hello, fellow travel lovers!

This time, it’s Day 2 of our Wakayama sightseeing, starting with a plan driven by the desire to try Wakayama ramen.

Not only did we enjoy ramen, but we also spent the day exploring Wakayama’s stunning scenery and rich history!

1. Starting the Day with the Stunning Scenery of Engetsu Island!

Our first stop of the day was Engetsu Island. This island is famous for the breathtaking moment when the sunset perfectly aligns with the hole in the rock!

This time, we visited in the morning, so there was no sunset, but the scenery was still beautiful nonetheless.

Engetsuto (The round moon island)
Its official name is Takashima, and the hole in the center looks just like a moon. Despite the strong winds and cloudy skies, it’s still quite a sight to behold. Engetsu Island is one of Japan’s top 100 sunset viewing spots, known for the stunning moment when the sun fits perfectly into the hole during spring and autumn. Though the nearby drive-in was closed, the parking area was still available.

2. Enjoying Nature at Bansho-yama Park

It's a park with a great view, isn't it?

The morning air feels refreshing, doesn't it?

Next, we visited Bansho-yama Park. It’s full of nature, perfect for a refreshing walk. Searching for the zodiac animal sculptures adds an extra layer of fun!

Take a stroll through Bansho-yama Park in Nanki Shirahama and enjoy breathtaking views from three different observation points! This recommended sightseeing spot offers panoramic views of the Shirahama coastline and Engetsu Island.

3. 南方熊楠記念館で知的な時間を

He was a biologist, ethnologist, and folklorist from Wakayama Prefecture.

It's said he liked beer and beef! That makes him quite relatable.

At the Minakata Kumagusu Memorial Museum, we learned about the achievements of Minakata Kumagusu, a renowned Japanese naturalist. I feel a little smarter now!

4. Relaxing with Marine Life at Kyoto University Shirahama Aquarium

It seems like they exhibit fish that live in the Kii Peninsula.

They even have the kelp you had yesterday!

At Kyoto University Shirahama Aquarium, we got to interact with various sea creatures. It may be small, but it's packed with fascinating exhibits.

Alright! Been waiting for this Wakayama Ramen!

What kind of Rame is it?

Left: Wakayama Ramen, Right: Ginger Ramen

Finally, it’s lunchtime! We indulged in Wakayama’s famous ramen at Ramen Bakumatsu Nanki Shirahama. The rich flavor of the broth left a lasting impression.

6. Relaxing at Saki-no-Yu

It's Japan's oldest hot spring! The view is breathtaking!

Crashing waves... so cold! And there’s seaweed in the bath!!

We headed to Saki-no-Yu, a seaside open-air bath. Listening to the sound of the waves while soaking was pure bliss.

7. Enjoying the Majestic Scenery at Senjojiki

We'll be walking around in the afternoon, right?

We'll be enjoying freshly brewed beer at the brewery 🍺

Senjojiki, with its expansive rock formations, is a breathtaking sight. It's a place where you can really feel the power of nature. Although the wind was strong, it left me feeling refreshed.

8. Feeling Adventurous at Sandanbeki Cave!

Taking picture with the word ”Say Sandanbeki~” was interesting.

It was an awe-inspiring cave, wasn't it?

Sandanbeki Cave is a spot where you can truly feel the spirit of adventure. As you walk through the cave near the sea, you can sense the grandeur of nature all around you.

9. Cheers with Nagisa Beer!

Here it is! Freshly brewed beer!

Been waiting for this!

We ended the day by enjoying local craft beer at Nagisa Beer. After exploring all those stunning sights, the beer was the perfect way to wrap things up. I tried the four-beer tasting set, and it was absolutely delicious!
