The Minakata Kumagusu Museum

Wakayama

It's a memorial museum built within the Banshoyama Park.

Minakata Kumagusu (1877–1942) was known as a Japanese explorer, naturalist, photographer, painter, and writer.

There's an observation deck on the rooftop, but it was closed due to strong winds.

Since I have not take any picture here, please see the admission ticket.

The characters written are in his own handwriting. He memorise things by writing.

Actually, I didn't know anything about Minakata Kumagusu before. But by the time I left the museum, I was completely fascinated and had become a fan.

He had an outstanding memory, an insatiable curiosity for research, boundless energy, and he loved meat and beer! (This is important!)

I think the most amazing thing about Banshozan Park was being able to learn about such an incredible person.

I wanted to buy a T-shirt with Minakata Mandara at the museum's gift shop, but it was sold out. What a shame!
