Hello, fellow travel lovers!
This time, we headed to Toyama for a 2-night, 3-day trip to stay at Hotel Tateyama, which ended its overnight accommodation service in August 2026.
If we were going all the way to Toyama, we wanted to enjoy more than just the hotel!
So we added Toyama sushi, the Glass Art Museum, Toyama oden, a hike around Murodo, and even Toyama Black ramen on the way home.
By staying in Toyama the night before, we were able to enjoy both the city and the mountains at a relaxed pace.

Day 1|Toyama City and Local Food
5:30 Departure! Sharing the Driving to Toyama
We left home at 5:30 a.m.
We took breaks along the way and switched drivers.
Around 11:30 a.m., we arrived in Toyama City.
First, we parked the car at our hotel and switched to the city tram.
Once the car was parked, everything felt easier.
And yes, this also meant we could safely enjoy a drink with lunch.(笑)
12:30 Lunch at Toyama Sushi Umi Toyama
If you are in Toyama, you have to start with sushi!
We had a reservation at Toyama Sushi Umi Toyama.

Fresh seafood from the very beginning of the trip.

That “We’re really in Toyama now!” feeling kicked in right away.
14:30 Toyama Glass Art Museum
After lunch, we took the tram again and headed to the Toyama Glass Art Museum.

It is a stylish complex shared with the city library.

The dramatic wooden atrium alone is worth seeing.

The glass art was even more beautiful and atmospheric than I expected.

Hotel Check-In
After sightseeing, we checked in at Tennen Onsen Tsurugi no Yu Onyado Nono Toyama.
This time, we stayed in a room for three. The view from the room was also a nice bonus.

After dropping off our luggage, our first stop was the bath.
A perfect way to reset after the long drive.
Toyama Oden for Dinner
Since we were in Toyama, we decided to try Toyama oden for dinner.

But…
the place was very retro.
And surprisingly, smoking and non-smoking areas were not separated, which we definitely had not expected.
We had just taken a bath too, so our first thought was,
“Oh no…”
But we were already there, so we stayed and ordered some Toyama oden.

The agedashi tofu was especially delicious.

Travel always comes with a few unexpected moments.
Day 2|Finally, the Main Event: Hotel Tateyama
A Very Satisfying Breakfast
The next morning started with breakfast at the hotel.

The rice was delicious.
The clam miso soup was delicious too.
We ate well and enjoyed Toyama from the start of the day.
As a pre-stay hotel, this was definitely the right choice.
From Tram to Bus at the Last Minute
After checking out, we headed for Toyama Station.
We had planned to take the tram, but then we noticed people waiting for a bus nearby.
We asked, and it turned out a bus to Toyama Station was arriving very soon.
Change of plans!
We took the bus instead.
That got us to the station earlier than expected.
And thanks to that, we were able to catch the weekend limited express.
What a lucky break!
Trips do not always go exactly as planned.
Sometimes they turn out even better.
Now for the Main Event: Hotel Tateyama
From Toyama Station, we took a train, cable car, and highland bus to Murodo.

After leaving our luggage at the hotel, we hiked around Mikurigaike.
That evening, we joined the stargazing program, and the next morning we headed back to Mikurigaike hoping for a sunrise.
Unfortunately, both the stars and the sunrise were hidden by clouds.

Day 3|One Last Taste of Toyama
After an early morning walk, we warmed up in the bath and headed to breakfast.

After a good breakfast, it was time to check out of Hotel Tateyama.
We were reluctant to leave, but eventually made our way back to Toyama Station.
Souvenir Time at Toyama Station
Before heading home, we did some final shopping at Toyama Station.

We picked up the things we had noticed earlier in the trip.
And somehow, the shopping bags kept multiplying.
After plenty of souvenir shopping, we returned to the parking lot and started the drive home.
One Last Toyama Specialty: Toyama Black Ramen
At a service area on the way back, we tried one final Toyama specialty.
Toyama Black ramen!

Just as the name suggests, the flavor was very rich and strong.
Definitely a serious punch.
It was good, but…
this one might be better suited to younger appetites.
We really did eat our way through Toyama until the very end.
Rain, a Rainbow, Traffic… and Still a Great Trip
On the way home, it rained.
Then we saw a rainbow.

And finally, traffic.
We arrived home a little later than planned, but it was still a very satisfying 2-night, 3-day trip.
We enjoyed Toyama food, explored the city, and stayed at Hotel Tateyama during its final summer.
Adding a night in Toyama before heading to the mountains gave us more time and made the whole trip feel much more relaxed.
Even if Hotel Tateyama is the main goal, adding a night in Toyama makes the trip even better.
It was a 3-day trip full of great memories.
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip!
