[Kamakura Sightseeing] A Wild Hiking Adventure in Genjiyama Park

Kanagawa

Hello, fellow travel lovers!

Today, I took a stroll through Genjiyama Park in Kamakura.

From the parking lot, I took the route that climbs up Kewaizaka and leads to Zeniarai Benzaiten.

Wow, this was quite the adventure!

The Kewaizaka Challenge!

Kewaizaka is registered as a Japanese Cultural Heritage site.

As I approached the entrance to Kewaizaka, I noticed the path was looking pretty wild!

Was it because of the rain from the day before? Or maybe… is this just how it always is? 🤔

Anyway, it was a steep, rocky slope that made me feel like I was on a mini trekking adventure!

すれ違ったおばさまが、通らなければよかった…てつぶやいてて、激しく同意しました。

Be careful if you decide to go! But don’t forget to keep that adventurous spirit alive!

Lesson learned: Kewaizaka is a no-go for high heels! 👠

A face-to-face with Minamoto no Yoritomo!

After somehow conquering the steep Kewaizaka, what awaited me was the familiar Minamoto no Yoritomo statue from our history textbooks.

Standing tall and proud, he's the symbol of the park!

Yoritomo-san is the great historical figure who established the Kamakura shogunate in 1185, Japan’s first samurai government. Meeting such a legend made my hiking fatigue disappear a little (lol).

And Yoritomo-san is super popular!

The peace and quiet of Kewaizaka was long gone… I even had to wait in line to take a photo! 📸

On to the next destination, Zeniarai Benzaiten!

So, after passing through Genjiyama Park, the next adventure awaits at Zeniarai Benzaiten. I’ll be washing my coins there, hoping for a boost in my financial luck!

The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun

Time spent here: 20 minutes (passing through only).
