Hello, fellow travel lovers!
This time, I visited Kaizō-ji Temple in Kamakura, known as the "Temple of Flowers" and the "Temple of Water.
While Kamakura is usually packed during the hydrangea season, Kaizō-ji Temple is surprisingly peaceful and serene, giving off the perfect hidden gem power spot vibe!
There’s a parking lot just before Kaizō-ji on the left. The entrance is a bit narrow, but it's free! So, drivers, take note!
The Red Umbrella and Flowers Along the Path
A short walk from the parking lot brings you to the path, where you'll find an adorable red umbrella! Underneath it, I discovered the "Kaizō-ji Temple Overview.
I paid the offering fee and gratefully received a portion of the temple's blessings.
The Kanetsukido Hall is filled with adorable flowers! 🌼🌸🌺 As expected from the "Temple of Flowers," it totally lifts your spirits!
As I walked along the well-maintained path, I could feel my heart being more and more soothed.
As I walked along the flower-lined path, I could see the shoin (study hall) through the window.
Beyond this window is a sunken area with a Zen garden featuring a pond, and I hear it's magnificent and beautiful. Unfortunately, it was closed to the public on this day.
The Mysterious Cave Beside the Main Hall
To the left of the main hall, I spotted a mysterious cave. Inside, there’s a torii gate and stone lanterns. What could we be worshipping here?
And take a look at this photo. Is that a halo of light around Kannon-sama?
A spiritual experience, out of nowhere! This definitely feels like a sign of good fortune, don’t you think?
The Secret of the Sixteen Wells
Further into the temple grounds, following the helpful arrows, I arrived at a dimly lit cave.
And there it was—16 wells arranged in 4 rows, both vertically and horizontally. In the center stands a statue of Kannon Bodhisattva.
Why 16? Was a dozen not enough...? As I pondered this, I could feel the mystical energy from the water that still flows to this day.
The Tranquility of the Temple and the Chirping of Birds
The scenery is, of course, breathtaking, but it's the sound of the birds that really enhances the atmosphere, like nature's perfect BGM. This is what it means to have your heart cleansed. I spent some peaceful time on the steps of the main hall, just soaking it all in.
It’s a wonderful place filled with nature, history, and a touch of mystery all wrapped together.
Next time, I definitely want to stroll through the open Zen garden and enjoy even more relaxation for the soul.
Be sure to visit Kaizō-ji Temple, where you'll be surrounded by flowers, nature, and a touch of mystery—it's the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate!
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
