Hello, fellow travel lovers!
Today’s story is a little different than usual. It’s not about traveling this time… I decided to take on my first challenge of making kumquat jam!
Why make jam?
I received a ton of kumquats! Impressive, right?
I’m grateful, but there’s no way I can eat them all… So, I decided to try making jam! I picked the easiest recipe and got started.
The toughest part was peeling the skin and removing the seeds!
First, peeling the skin and removing the seeds. This turned out to be more time-consuming than I thought... After boiling them once, I carefully separated everything.
The thin skins and peels need to be chopped with a knife, but with so many, it feels like it’s never going to end!
Sterilizing
I used the biggest pot I have at home to sterilize the jars for 10 minutes. So far, so good!
Hope it turns out delicious!
As I wished for it to turn out delicious and started simmering... the peels were tough!! Is this even jam? Or is it 'chewy jam'?
Nope, it’s just a sweet, solid lump... (tears)
At this point, I thought, ‘Forget it!’ and tossed everything into the food processor. After a quick blend, like magic, I had soft and delicious jam! Thank you, dear food processor.
The first batch of jam is for home use!
First, it's for home use! I filled some empty jars I had at home.
For sharing, I used some stylish jars I bought from the 100-yen shop.
And when I sent this kumquat jam to the person who gave me the kumquats, I received a 'top marks' review!
I never expected my homemade jam to be such a hit... It turns out, when it comes to cooking, boldness is key! (lol)
If you ever get your hands on some kumquats, you should definitely give it a try too. It's easy, fun, and you’ll enjoy making some delicious jam♪
Here’s the recipe I used this time! I made it about four times with triple the amount!
Even when it’s not about traveling, the fun continues… Wishing you all wonderful challenges ahead! **TabiJun**
