For my mother, who dreams of completing the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, we enjoyed a mini pilgrimage and blessing for protection at Kawasaki Daishi.
First, we passed through the magnificent Dai-Sanmon (Great Mountain Gate) and completed the reservation for a protection blessing at the Goma prayer reception.
We promptly head to the Main Hall for our prayer.

The first thing we heard was, surprisingly, an enlightening talk from the monk about “forgetfulness.”
It seemed to carry a message along the lines of, "Forget the bad things, and remember the good with gratitude."
Hmm… somehow, it made sense!?

The Goma fire ritual begins with eight monks joining in!
The intense blaze indoors is so powerful that I couldn’t help but worry, “Is this much fire really safe indoors?” Sparks are flying everywhere!

Each sacred talisman is held up to the flames as prayers are offered, and the sight is simply overwhelming.

After leaving the Main Hall, it’s time for a stroll around the temple grounds.
The first thing that catches your eye is the "Henro Daishi Corner."
Its perfect collaboration with the Five-Story Pagoda is a sight to behold! This duo is truly a breathtaking view!
A row of stone markers engraved with the names of 88 temples lets you experience the feel of a mini pilgrimage right here. No need to travel to Shikoku—you can complete the pilgrimage in Kawasaki!
Next up is the 100 Kannon Statues Tour.
Just touring the 100 Kannon statues brings abundant blessings! How grateful, how truly grateful!
Additionally, at the "Yasuragi Bridge," you can enjoy the stunning contrast between the statue of Shakuson and the serene pond.
And the koi here are massive, like sumo champions! Could it be that they’ve grown this big by soaking up all these daily blessings?
I feel like I’ve received an abundance of blessings from this visit.

By the way, the official name of Kawasaki Daishi is "Kongozan Kinjoin Heikenji."
With a history spanning 890 years, this renowned temple is widely known across Japan as the "Great Temple for Protection from Misfortune."
It’s said to be one of the top three most visited temples in Japan for New Year’s visits!
Access Information: Convenient by train and with ample parking
Just a 4-minute walk from Kawasaki Daishi Station (Keikyu Daishi Line) South Exit, and an 8-minute walk from Higashimonzen Station, making access very convenient.
A spacious, free parking area is available at the Traffic Safety Prayer Hall.
It’s about an 11-minute walk from there to the temple.
After your visit, indulge in local specialties and hunt for the perfect souvenirs!
After the visit, relax with a comforting bowl of soba for lunch.
Finally, it’s souvenir time! Browse the shops lined with specialties like *kuzumochi* and *Daishi-maki* to find the perfect mementos.
This time, I picked up *Daishi-maki*, *Daruma senbei*, *sesame furikake*, and *gold sesame croquettes.*
The souvenirs were highly satisfying!
