Get Silky Smooth Skin at Kosuge no Yu! What’s the Deal with the “Needle Hell”?

Spa

Hello, fellow travel lovers!

This time, I visited the highly alkaline hot spring "Kosuge no Yu." I enjoyed the amazing skin-smoothing effects of the onsen and even tried a slightly thrilling (or maybe?) foot reflexology experience!

Relax in the Serene Ambiance of a Circulatory Design

The interior of Kosuge no Yu offers more than just hot springs, with features like a cozy kotatsu room and a reading room. The facility is designed in a circulatory layout surrounding a charming courtyard, exuding a traditional and tranquil atmosphere.

Upon arrival, a smiling staff member warmly greeted me with, "Please feel free to take a look around."

The lobby was adorned with Christmas decorations, creating a fully relaxing ambiance! It felt like stepping right into the holiday spirit.

Impressive Beauty Effects! The Wonders of a Highly Alkaline Hot Spring

Now, on to the main attraction—the bath! True to its name as the "Beauty Hot Spring," simply soaking in the water made my skin feel silky smooth. The water was soft, and the gentle warmth seeping into my body was absolutely divine!

Relaxing in the Yuzu Bath

The special bath of the day was the "Yuzu Bath"! A net filled with yuzu fruits floated on the water, releasing a refreshing and soothing citrus aroma. Amusingly, it seemed someone had squished one of the yuzu, creating an area with an extra intense fragrance!

Foot Reflexology Challenge… Abandoned Due to the Cold!

Next to the open-air bath, there’s a "Foot Reflexology Corner" aptly named “Needle Hell”!

It’s an area where you walk barefoot on stones with raised points to stimulate the soles of your feet... but here’s where the problem arose.

Facing the winter’s cold wind, I quickly realized that attempting this barefoot challenge would be far more brutal than expected. In the end, I politely opted out of this "hellish" experience (lol). Maybe I’ll give it a try in warmer weather next time!

Watch Out for the Operating Hours!

The onsen closes at 6:00 PM, and the dining area shuts down even earlier at 4:00 PM, so it’s best to plan your schedule accordingly. It’s a perfect spot to wrap up a day trip, but be sure to finish your visit before it gets too late!

Kosuge no Yu Summary

Kosuge no Yu is perfect for soothing tired feet and legs after exploring Lake Okutama! The onsen’s beauty-enhancing effects will leave both your body and mind refreshed. Next time, I hope to try the foot reflexology "Needle Hell," but maybe during warmer weather (lol). If you’re looking for a place to enjoy nature and relax in a hot spring, Kosuge no Yu is a must-visit!

The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip!Tabijun
