Hello, fellow travel lovers!
This time, I took a leisurely stroll through Gifu Park at the foot of Gifu Castle.
I arrived just before 10 a.m., and it was already bustling with people.
I got up early and headed to Gifu Park.
Even though it wasn’t even 10 a.m., there was already quite a crowd.
Tour buses were already pulling in here and there, and I couldn’t help but think, “Wow, the power of Gifu Castle is impressive!”
Right at the gate—bam! The statue of young Oda Nobunaga.
I couldn’t help but stop in my tracks in front of the gate at the entrance.
Standing there was the statue of young Oda Nobunaga.
With one sleeve off, drawing his bow, hair blowing in the wind… it looked like a scene straight out of a samurai drama—so cool!
And it was created by Seibo Kitamura, the famous sculptor of Nagasaki’s “Peace Statue.” From the very entrance of Gifu Park, you get a rich mix of historical romance and art.
Looking up, I saw Gifu Castle—small yet dignified—perched atop Mount Kinka.
“Alright, today I’m climbing all the way up there!”—switch ON.
Refreshing in the fresh greenery
The park was wrapped in vibrant fresh greenery, and just walking through it felt great!
…or at least that’s what I’d like to say, but on this day the sun was blazing down—even in the morning.
Stepping into the shade was such a relief, and it really made me appreciate the gift of nature.
Peeking into the pond, I saw a turtle leisurely sunbathing on a rock.
At this time of year, the shaded spots in Gifu Park make it the perfect place for a pleasant walk.
Gifu Park’s Little Collection of Fun Finds
As you wander around Gifu Park, you’ll come across not only the Nobunaga statue and fresh greenery, but also little “oh, what’s this?” moments. Here are a few quick ones with photos!
Monument of the “100 Selected Urban Landscapes” Gifu Park proudly made it into the “100 Selected Urban Landscapes.” And honestly, the scenery totally deserves it.
Explanation plaque of Gifu Castle’s well:A well at the castle ruins. Reading the explanation makes you go, “Ah, so much history…” with that knowing face (lol).
Sign for Free Tour Guide:I spotted a sign saying “Free Tour Guide!” but there wasn’t a guide in sight… maybe it was just a mirage?
Yellow banner with the family crest
This yellow crest is Nobunaga Oda’s “Mokko Mon.” Gifu Park is clearly all about showcasing Nobunaga!
Chiyo-hime’s Wedding Pond Monument:This pond was where Chiyo-hime, the granddaughter of Tokugawa Ieyasu, stopped to rest on her wedding journey. A true princess pit stop ♡
Bonus: Morning’s Special Treat Shot
Actually, that morning while driving on the highway after leaving home, the magnificent Mt. Fuji suddenly appeared in full view.
I snapped a photo from the passenger seat through the window.
It was the moment I felt certain, “Today is going to be an amazing trip!”
Next, it’s off to *Dengaku-dokoro Murase*, just by the park, for the miso oden mission!
The journey continues... Wishing you all a wonderful trip! – TabiJun
