This time, I’d like to introduce Mori no Eki, one of my favorite stops when heading out on our annual cherry-buying trip.
This local market is packed with fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit.
And in early summer, the star of the show is, of course, cherries! 🍒🍒
From Gift Boxes to Bargain Baskets — Cherries Everywhere!
Inside the shop, you’ll find beautifully packed boxes of cherries that would make perfect gifts.
Just looking at them gets me excited for cherry season.
But my personal recommendation is this:
If you’re planning to eat them right away, go for the bargain baskets!
They may not all be perfectly shaped, but for enjoying at home, they’re more than good enough. It’s an easy and affordable way to enjoy delicious, freshly harvested cherries.
After I decided to buy a basket and was holding it in my hands, one of the ladies at the shop came over and said,
“They’re delicious!”
Then she grabbed another handful of cherries and added them to my basket!
It’s little moments like this that make shopping at a local market so much fun. 😊
Don’t Forget the Seasonal Vegetables
Mori no Eki also has plenty of locally grown seasonal vegetables.
The prices are reasonable, so it’s very easy to end up buying more than you planned!
On this visit, I also spotted freshly boiled corn on the cob🌽！
I’m definitely weak when it comes to anything that looks ready to eat right away. 🤣
Bargains That Make You Look Twice!
Another thing that caught my eye was the boxes packed full of incredibly cheap produce.
The prices were so good that I had to look twice and think,
“Is this price really right?”
It almost felt like they were saying, “Just take it!” 🤣
A Favorite Stop on Our Cherry Trip
Mori no Eki may not be a major tourist attraction, but it’s a great place to enjoy fresh seasonal produce and get a little taste of local life.
Whenever we make our cherry-buying trip to Yamagata, this is one place I’ll definitely want to keep stopping at.
If you’re taking a road trip through the Tohoku region during cherry season, it’s well worth a quick visit.
