Hello, fellow travel lovers—and curry greetings to you all!
When summer gets hot, there is only one answer: curry!
So, I returned to one of Sagamihara’s most popular restaurants, Curry Shop Maboroshi.
This time, I was having lunch with friends who had never tried Maboroshi’s curry before.
Arriving at 9:10 a.m.—Fully Prepared!
Numbered tickets are usually handed out from around 9:30 a.m.
Since this was an important lunch with friends, we arrived at about 9:10 a.m., full of enthusiasm.
On my previous visit, 16 people were already waiting by 9:30 a.m., but this time there were only four of us.
As we waited, we could hear the rhythmic chopping of vegetables inside the restaurant, while the aroma of spices drifted out through the ventilation fan.
Our excitement was already at maximum level!
A Helper Joined Our Curry Mission!
Each person can order up to two curries when receiving a numbered ticket.

Since three of us wanted to eat inside the restaurant, we asked another friend to help us secure enough order slots.
As a reward, our helper used one of the available slots to order a takeaway curry.
One friend ordered half a portion of rice, so we cheekily had the remaining half added to the helper’s takeaway curry.
A well-earned reward for joining our ticket-saving mission!
Ordering Was Easy the Second Time Around
When the numbered tickets were handed out, we told the staff our number of diners, curry choices, spice levels, rice portions, toppings, and contact information.
Since this was my second visit, I already knew how the system worked, and everything went smoothly.
We successfully secured seats in the first group at 11:00 a.m.
What We Ordered
Here were our curry choices:
- Pork curry with half a portion of rice
- Pork curry with eggplant and lamb
- Chicken curry
- Takeaway pork curry with eggplant and lamb, plus an extra-large serving of rice
Once again, Maboroshi’s curry came packed with generous chunks of meat.
Even with half a portion of rice, the serving was more than satisfying.
Although the eggplant and lamb were described as a topping, they arrived separately from the curry.
They had a slightly sweet, rich flavor and paired perfectly with the spicy curry.
The chicken curry was also filled with plenty of large pieces of meat!
During the meal, we were treated to a complimentary iced chai. It was a welcome drink that gently refreshed our taste buds after the spicy curry.
There were also many customers picking up takeaway orders, along with several people who appeared to be regulars.
It reminded me once again that this is a much-loved local restaurant.
Spicy Curry Is Perfect for Summer
The fragrant spices and generous portions of meat gave us a much-needed energy boost!
After finishing our lunch, we said goodbye feeling completely satisfied—and completely full.
There is something especially delicious about eating spicy curry on a hot summer day.
